My Horoscope from Astrology.com : Who’s in charge? That’s the big question that is on everyone’s mind today, and you may have to be the one to finally step up and spit it out for everyone to hear. Things should settle down soon after that. Do you think the person that writes my horoscope also reads my blog? LoL. Thank you guys so much for checking out my blog! I never collected baseball cards or played Dungeons & Dragons when I was a kid and I don’t bother with that shit as an adult.

DOWNLOAD EPISODE 26 | DOWNLOAD PAST EPISODES Sebek and Bacott kicked off Episode 26 of the weekly JoeSportsFan Show by reviewing a little “This Week in History” and parlayed notable dates into a riveting discussion about the recent MLB/Topps union.  As of last week , Topps has been given exclusive access to use MLB team names and logos on their baseball cards.  Others cannot.  Pretty big news.  Well, for us at least.  Thus, we broke down the decline of the baseball card “industry” with a little assistance from our friend, Don West.

Mets To Make Citi More Metsmerized! - metsmerizedonline.com
08/13/2009
It figures that the Mets would suddenly pick a random weekend in August to suddenly decide that they want to make Citi Field more Mets-centric or as we like to say, MetsMerized! With the team continuing to struggle and attendance sagging, the Mets are slashing ticket prices and giving Mets fans a new reason to come to the park. According to several sources, we will finally be able to see more tributes to Mets players and historic Mets moments around the park.

First we published the Jim Traber Drinking Game .  Then we introduced everyone to the world’s greatest cardboard cutout .  Now we have something that may top them all.  Introducing… Yes, we’ve got our hands on “Yardbird: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Jim Traber.”   Over the next few weeks, we will publish excerpts from this never before published book for the enjoyment of our readers.  We’re not sure why the original publisher rejected the book, but after reading some of it, maybe you’ll figure it out.  Check out some excerpts after the jump.

Creation of the Right of Publicity in California The “right of publicity” is generally defined as the right to control or prevent the unauthorized use or commercial exploitation of one’s name, likeness, voice or “personality.”[1] The right of publicity evolved from the right of privacy, which itself has evolved dramatically over more than a century. In 1890, Samuel D. Warren and Louis D.
How NOT to run a card company - completist.wordpress.com

In the early-90’s, Pro-Set wanted badly to get into the baseball market and compete with the “big boys” of The Hobby like Upper Deck, Topps, Donruss, & Fleer. In 1992, someone in the company had the bright idea of creating a parody product for collectors. Flopps was set to be a 66-card set making innocent fun of the game’s most well-known players and teams. As a preview of their product, they produced a 5-card promo set featuring such players as Barry Bones (pictured) , Wade Bugs, Ken Groovy Jr., Stickey Henderson and the best one of all, Lance Parishable.
Pull of a lifetime from Blowout forums! - completist.wordpress.com
08/13/2009
A lucky collector from South Carolina got the shock of a lifetime when he found an amazing 1/1 cut signature in his box of 2009 Topps Allen & Ginter. I won’t give away who the cut was of but I’ll give you one hint: Yahoo Serious. Sorry for the terrible 80’s flashback. In case you didn’t already figure it out, CLICK HERE . As you can see, the pull is very fresh and has not made its way on eBay as of yet but it’s only a matter of time. My guess is the card easily hits $5,000 dollars if not more.
Logos? What logos? - completist.wordpress.com

With the news of the year finally starting to sink in, no longer are the masses worried about baseball scene in 2010. Upper Deck has announced, although vaguely, that it will produce baseball cards next year. As a longtime Upper Deck collector, I truly hope they look to the past to see how cards can be done without a license rather than looking to recent examples from Sportkings and Panini. One great example is 1996’s Donruss/Leaf Studio which was licensed by Major League Baseball but for one reason or another featured many cards without logos in full view.

The Mets fought hard for this victory but boy it was a wild ride. I have no idea how Oliver Perez got away with only one earned run with six walks. There is no way he can have a decent career pitching like that. He needs to learn how to cut down on the walks, get better control and go deeper into games. But at this point in his career it might be too late for that. I really believe this would be the last big contract he gets. Then he’ll pitch for a few team for the minimum, a journey- men a la Sidney Ponson and Bruce Chen.

On August 6, 2009, the New York Times reported that Major League Baseball granted an exclusive license to Topps for baseball cards.  To justify its legality under the antitrust laws, the MLB Executive Vice President is quoted as having relied on the recent Seventh Circuit decision in American Needle v.
Where I’ve been - handcollated.wordpress.com

You may have noticed a whole lot of silence from the blog recently. Nothing major, just some vacation time to collect my thoughts. It’s actually quite nice to not be caught up in blogging and the whole Topps baseball exclusive thing. From what I’ve seen, though, it seems baseball card bloggers are quite a pessimistic bunch. Upper Deck’s been doing it with hockey for years. Sure it’s not my favorite thing, but it makes it easier for me as a set collector to chose what I want to collect.
How To Supercharge Your Domain - homebusinessposts.com
08/12/2009
I know choosing a domain for your home business isn’t rocket science, but it can play an important role on the type and quantity of visitors you receive. Let me; first of all, ask you some simple questions that you should ask yourself.  What do you take into consideration with your domain name?  Are you thinking of your domain name as online real-estate?  Are you picking a good location for branding, marketing, traffic, etc?  Did you consider a name that is easy to remember?  How much natural branding do you want to receive?  If you have already asked yourself similar questions that I have presented, then you are already on the right track!
Ballpark Collection shaping up - completist.wordpress.com
08/12/2009
Upper Deck has released new images from the soon to be released Ballpark Collection. Rather than steal all the images and host them on my blog like Beckett did, I will instead point you in the direction of Upper Deck’s Facebook account , where the images were originally released. I definitely respect Upper Deck & Topps’ decision not to play favorites and make new images & information available to all sources and every single collector.

Major League Baseball cut an exclusive deal with Topps last week, making it the only baseball card maker with licensing rights to show players in their actual uniforms and effectively killing competition. The motivation behind the deal is to refocus cards for kids by ending the profusion of brands and sets. At Slate, Dave Jamieson isn’t so sure the move is going to help: … the problem with the business isn’t that there have been too many card producers.

Yesterday, we visited with by far the most unusual business in Alexandria ’s eclectic Del Ray neighborhood - the Exotic Planterium, Card and Comic Collectorama. The Exotic Planterium was started some 34 years ago by owner Dennis Webb and we think it is fair to say that little, if anything, has changed since then. Randomly stacked boxes of merchandise prevent the front door from opening all the way, it is almost impossible for two people to stand side by side and the ancient air conditioner is on its last legs.  It’s dusty, dirty, cluttered and a throwback to another time and place -  yet intriguing.
